TRANSCRIBING

On average, one court reporter may use two to three transcriptionists at any given time. A transcriptionist must be self-motivated and self-disciplined.

There is a high demand for conscientious transcriptionists, and it’s not limited to only typing, programs such as Otter may be utilized to transcribe for the transcriptionist. Income may be generated by transcribing for the court system, as well.

Working from home is convenient and sometimes necessary. As with any home-based business, the challenges will be the normal events of everyone wanting your attention while you’re in the process of completing a transcript. Through trial and error, the transcript will be completed.

Transcriptionists perform their duties because of the desire for supplemental income. Working from home and setting specific hours may be necessary. The amount of money generated by becoming a transcriptionist is up to the individual. The amount of time transcribing will reflect the income generated. Many transcriptionists, after transcribing for a few years, have continued their education to become a court reporter.

THEORY

Formatting the spoken word provided via email in mp3, ogg, or wav format.  Audio received is transcribed and proofread.  Formatting of questions, answers, colloquy and parentheticals to complete the transcript.
